Re: Curves To Levels?

if I can somehow convert or reverse engineer the curves adjustment layer into a levels adjustment layer

You can't. Levels is a subset of Curves - it creates one particular curve, a gamma curve.

You should really try to make friends with Curves. It's vastly more powerful than Levels. I agree that Levels is often much more convenient for setting the endpoints, but for anything that goes on in the middle it's very limited.

If you use the same settings on raw files vs. rendered RGB files, you can and should always expect a number of differences. They're very different animals and not directly comparable.

This is just a very noisy image, probably shot at very high ISO (I use a D800 and this kind of noise usually doesn't happen until ISO 3200 and up).

ACR/Lightroom noise reduction should be able to reduce this significantly - but you need to do it. It doesn't happen automatically like it often does in camera manufacturers' own software.

I do not see pixels. You would have to go to 600% to see pixels as shown in my photo. The white lines are the Pixel Grid.

At 100% you see some fuzziness, but that's the nature of the jpeg and as 21 pointed out, noise (not pixels).

and at 12.5% like yours.

My photo is 5312 px by 2988 px at 72 ppi

What do you see if you click on the white arrow at the bottom right and checkmark Document Dimensions?

Admittedly not shot by a Nikon D800, but by a 16 MP Samsung Galaxy S6 Camera Phone.

Thank you - can I do this to the JPEG in Lightroom - the noise reduction thing? - I don’t have the original RAW file anymore. I wonder if doing it to the jpeg might make things worse?

Scrubby zoom in PS2017 get greyed out in one image while in the other one it is still working as always did

Today I have opened 2 pictures in different tabs and I start working, then suddenly scrubby zoom get greyed out and I can't use it on that image, while on the other one which is opened at the same time it works great. Meanwhile  "Animated zoom" option is checked in both images, in one of them zoom slides smoothly while the other one is not, I can't understand what is the problem and how to fix it without restarting.

I'm using PS 2017 in  win 10 with quadro k2200 videocard.

Using the same units, mine is 27 x 15 cm @ 500 ppi.

Maybe you can try Noise Reduction as Dag Suggested, but printed out at that size, does it look bad?

can I do this to the JPEG in Lightroom

Yes, it'll work. It won't be nearly as effective as with the original raw file - but it'll help.

37.39 cm x 24.95 cm (500 ppi)

That's a perfectly standard D810 file at 7360 x 4912 pixels.

It will update the video drivers on your PC to the latest versions. The crash report you shared earlier was related to a video driver problem. By installing the latest version you can ensure that any bugs that have been discovered and addressed by AMD are eliminated.

It is always the first step in eliminating an issue.

Once installed - restart your computer , then try Photoshop again. There is a good chance that updating the driver will correct the problem.

If you do get another crash make a note of exactly what you were doing at the time of the crash and get the latest reliability report relating to that crash. Also check what version of Photoshop you are using. The current version is CC2017.0.1.
