You can tell when a layer is highlighted because it will have a gray tint, like this:
You can also tell by looking at the title bar that has the name of the file, and in parenthesis the name of the layer will be displayed.
The layer should also be visible (should have an eye icon next to it).
Hello, I have not been using PS since 2010. Started today and wanted make some logos.
I have a self made picture for logo. Main idea was to make it metallic style like in tutorials, but I planned to use other material type for...overlaying(?)
I was testing different fabrics to give a texture for my logo, it seemed out that the logo it self should be light, not black, so......I decided to make selection by using Select> Color Range, it selected pretty good. Then I took a brush and started to paint it with brush, logo was painted in the color I did choose, but a very lighter version of color was painted outside the selection. Why so? Isn't selection a limit?

For the van, axe and fishing rod part I want to give a grass texture, for the eagle's part I want to give sky texture. And in the background I want to put a world map.
I am watching a lot of tutorials and every time have something that does not work out, a lot of things to bring up back in memory and learn a lot of new. Will do it.
The Stroke command under the Edit menu will be grayed out but the Stroke layer style will be available.
I've removed the Skin.8bf (both of them) to the desktop. The faulting module path is now Sky.8bf
The Creative Cloud Cleaner page looks as if it needs an update. Is it ok to use with Windows 10 and if I use it, will it leave the Photoshop CC 2015.5 installation intact as this currently works?

Thanks. I was aware of that page, but wanted to know if getting a better graphics card would help PS and LR perform better versus getting a quad core processor, but slower video card. Isn't the newer versions of PS and LR more GPU-intensive (meaning they can utilize the GPU more)?
Having a similar issue with Photoshop 2017 CC
Does anyone know how you can edit a 4 band tiff image, red, green, blue and near infrared together. I would like to use photoshop with all 4 bands present instead of stripping one band out. Is there another way or product within the adobe suite.
You can either select your layer in a file that's already opened and add Camera Raw as a filter by going to Filter>Camera Raw Filter... (also accessed by Shift+Ctrl+A on PC Shift+CMD+A on Mac):
That is one way.
Another thing you can do is open your file as if it were natively Raw.
Go to File>Open As...:
And then browse to and pick your file and choose to open it as Camera Raw:
I am currently in Photoshop and cannot access it. What do I need to do to open it? I am trying to teach a lesson that uses this feature.

The cleaner tool is Win 10 compatible. Just from Control Panel remove Photoshop 2017, earlier versions should be listed there and left alone. If it does affect 2015.5 then you can always reinstall it from the desktop app. Obviously with multiple installs of the same program it is possible a cleaner will remove something needed by the earlier version and I suppose technically you should remove all versions of Photoshop and run the cleaner. If I was doing this I would remove CC2017 and 2015 using Control Panel then run the cleaner so it is Photoshop free. Restart the computer and use the desktop app to install 2015.5 followed by CC2017 with all the updates.
I wouldn't want to use Photoshop on a dual core system, but a lot of features simply won't work without a minimum standard GPU, and I don't know if Intel onboard HD520/530 meets that minimum spec. I would also be concerned about onboard graphics using system RAM, so would want to know how much memory these laptops have? 8Gb RAM is a reasonable minimum spec nowadays, and if the onboard graphics is using 2Gb your spec is starting to be compromised.
Dedicated GPUs use faster memory. Hmmm I just checked and the GTX940M uses the same DDR3 as you are likely to find on the notebook, so no advantage there.
I'd be inclined to have a good read of the relative specs, but from a quick look myself, I am not terribly impressed with HD530

The bottom line here is that you have put yourself between a rock and a hard place, and there is no good answer either way.

Correct I did not get that at all. You wrote nothing about any shape layer or any line. You also can not draw on a shape layer. Yon can add a layer above it and draw a 1px line over the shape layer. It is easy to taget the layer in the layer palette or slect the 1px wide line with a ctrl+Click in the layers palette. If you try to select the line layer with the move tool with auto select layer option checked I could see you could easily miss and select some other layers. You should uncheck auto-select layer in the move tool option bar and target the line layer in the layers palette.
I did read somewhere that my Quadro K2000M is about the same as an Intel HD 520 /530 chip recently, so maybe they've made some advancements, but I could see when you start using some advanced features like Refine Edge, that those may take more processing power (and thus more time on a slower computer and/or one with integrated graphics).
I think Lenovo had some general laptops in the ThinkPad line with Geforce GTX basic graphics cards, which should be fine. Maybe I'll look at one of those....
My laptop hasn't died yet, and I have a spare laptop with the Intel HD 4600 and a dual core I could use in pinch, although it would be slow, so I still have some time. I just don't think my current PS/LR laptop is going to last much longer as it's already 4 years old and has had a lot of use and abuse).
That's what happens when you migrate CS4 from backup, it breaks the license giving you that error.
You can use the License Repair tool provided by Adobe to fix it. I'm very familiar with this and have provided a screenshot guide to fix the license in place without having to go for a reinstall.

I'm fairly comfortable with the interface, I'm not quite sure what you mean by selections, and as for layers, it's just the huge list of effects that are above them that I have yet to look into extensively. I've played with Hue/Saturation, and other ones as well, but those are fairly simple to figure out, ESPECIALLY since the program itself says "Hue/Saturation." That way, I could just look up a tutorial on Hue/Saturation and learn about it. The anomaly in Photoshop Matte Painting is that until somebody mentioned it, I NEVER would have been able to look it up. I've searched through lists of advanced photoshop techniques before and NEVER heard of Matte Painting. It's the niche things that are absolutely extraordinary that I'm trying to learn more about, and I can't learn more about them until I know the names of them. :/ Thank you for the response by the way!
I would avoid Intel cards. I've had a lot of issues with them. Best to go with AMD or Nvidia. Avoid integrated card Intel with AMD, for example. The drivers are updates by the computer company and not the card maker. Sometimes you can't get an update.
