If your objective is to reproduce the image in 3 or 4 special colors and maintain an approximation of the original tonal scale, consider a tritone or quadtone. The result often resembles a duotone.
1. Choose Image > Mode > Grayscale
2. Choose Image > Mode > Duotone
3. In the drop-down panel Type field, choose Tritone or Quadtone
4. Click on the color square for each and choose a color. Name it in the adjacent field.
5. Click on the curve for each and adjust it as you see fit. Experiment.
No possibility since PS crashes the computer before I get a chance to do anything.

Try this:
Close Photoshop, then hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch PS. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.
If you can't do that, or it doesn't work, uninstall Photoshop using the drop-down menu in Creative Cloud – see screen shot then reinstall. If that doesn't work uninstall PS again and run the Adobe Cleaner app before reinstalling PS.

I discovered that the previous owner of the D810 had set the copyright and author in the camera. I fixed that issue. Now I am hunting for a fast way to correct all the photos in Bridge. If I go into a folder and select all photos and try to change the data in mass I find I can't type any characters into the Author and Copyright fields.
There might be an easier way to do this, but start with, but start with a file that contains only the colors you want. To be safe it doesn't mess up, transfer that layer to your target file, while you set the process up. Select the file with the swatches and select index color and then a custom pallet. It will give you colors you don't want and more than you need. So click on each swatch in the index color UI to change the color. Either select the color from your original file or the file where you transferred the colors. I don't know how to delete swatches, so just fill the remaining with one of the same colors.
Save the swatches as a color table. You can then close the color file and select your target file. Select indexed color. It will most likely select "Previous," and you don't have to do anything. But if it doesn't, open the color table that you just saved.
Once you apply the colors, I would switch back to RGB, as you really can't edit in Indexed color.
For some reason only Legacy brushes seem to lag if I use a brush with 100 or more pixels on 300 dpi. When using the newer brushes within photoshop they do not lag unless the brush is around 5000 pixels.

I watched a tutorial and tried at same time if it worked, but something was funny. What I tried was the shortcut for Layer Opacity and Fill. OK, what's not working? If you hit the a number between 0-9 it changes the Opacity %, and two zeros gives you 0% and one zero gives you 100%. And that's working fine, but to change Fill you should hold Shift the hit a number, it works fine from 0 to 99%.
But when I the hit one zero to get 100% again then it scrolls between the different Blendig Modes. Can I change the shortcut som how?

Is this more like what you are looking for? The first image is yours and the second is a re-working with more vibrant color.
I am experiencing the same problem and error message. I am loathe to uninstall/reinstall, fearing that I'll lose setting, presets, etc. I tried deleting Photoshop preferences, and this did nothing. Are you saying to delete the preferences AND uninstall/reinstall?

Let's be clear about one thing: Photoshop's standard eraser tool never ever had an option to erase on multiple layers simultaneously.
I am unclear about one step in your workflow: you say you create a "blank adjustment layer". What do you mean by this? A regular layer?
Another option is to add a blank layer at the bottom of the layer stack, and then use that layer as a clipping mask for all the other layers. Drawing with black erases things, and drawing with white reveals (or a grey tint to gradually). And the eraser tool will erase all the clipped layers.
So here's the workflow:
1) select all layers you want to erase in (to be clipped)
2) click on the Layers panel fly-out menu and choose "Create Clipping Mask". Or use the shortcut key ALT-CTRL-G
3) Select the clipping mask and use the regular brush with black to reveal, white to erase. Or use the eraser tool to erase portions.
This is the one circumstance I can think of where the eraser works on all layers simultaneously.
Btw, the only application I know of that supports a direct layer erase blend mode is Krita. By adding a top layer and setting the blend mode to ERASE it allows the user to erase on all the layers simultaneously. Much easier to control than a clipping mask.
